5 Bad Habits that are Making your Hair Thinner

If you are someone who has been complaining about hair thinning and excess hair fall, then chances are that you may be bringing that upon you, yourself. Might sound harsh at first but if you analyze your habits and hair care methods, you will be able to identify your mistakes. Thus, we have come up with the top 6 bad habits that may be responsible for making your hair thinner:

1. Taking Steamy Showers

Who doesn’t love a nice hot and steamy shower? Well, you may love it but remember that it could be harming your hair. Hot water tends to dehydrate the hair strands just like the skin and may lead to brittle and dry hair which may be more prone to falling off.  This habit also washes off the healthy protective oils from the scalp and may lead to hair thinning.

2. Using Hot Styling Tools Regularly

Another habit which may be resulting hair thinning is regular use of hot styling tools. Hot temperatures tend to damage the proteins of the hair and also the protective cuticle.  What happens is that when the cuticle gets damaged, there is a certain disbalance created in the moisture which in turn leads to hair breakage.

3. Wrong Handling of Wet Hair

You may be aware of this but still continue to mishandle your wet hair. Well, this is one major reason for hair thinning and also the most common ones. When our hair are wet or full of water, they are more prone to breakage as they are fragile. This is because when hair are saturated with water, the cuticle is slightly in a raised position and brushing, combing or towel drying at this point could lead to hair breakage and thinning.

4. Soaking in too much Sun

If you thought the sun was only harmful for the skin then you must know that it has a bad effect even on the hair. When hair are exposed to the sun for a long time, then they may lose their elasticity and strength, thus leading to hair breakage and thereby hair thinning.

5. Not Washing Hair too Often

Most of us avoid washing hair too often to avoid hair fall but infact not washing them too often can also lead to falling of hair. Not washing hair too often can lead to accumulation of dandruff on the scalp which in turn leads to hair breakage.
